How To Ace The Contouring Trend Spotted At LFW Winter Festive 2019

A rule of thumb when it comes to fashion is that when seen thrice on the runway it’s a trend and when that thrice is seen tenfold it’s a favourite. A beauty trend that is pretty much outside the constraints of trends is Contouring; a favourite that has been and will be. The stars are doing it, your favourite influencers are doing it and we’re pretty sure you’re doing it or at least trying to do it.

The contouring technique involves the application of light and dark face makeup on certain facial features to enhance some and/or slim down others to create a sculptural look.

Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of what you got to know to remodel what we saw at the LFW Winter Festive 2019 runway.

STEP 1:

Prime your skin with a moisturizer and a makeup primer and apply a foundation closest to your natural colour to even out the skin tone and create a smooth base.

STEP 2:

Optional: Apply a highlighter two shades lighter than your natural skin tone above your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, on your brow bones, under your eyes, on the inner corners of your eyes, along your cupid’s bow and down your chin.

STEP 3:

Now for the actual contouring pick a colour that’s two shades darker than your natural skin tone. And here’s the secret: try out one of the following drawing techniques depending on what works better for you.

Draw a 3 on your face taking the product from your forehead (along your hairline) to your cheekbones and down to your jawline on both sides of your face. Use your tools to blend your contour into your foundation.

OR

Stand head on in front of your mirror and observe where the light is hitting your face and where it’s creating shadows. Use that as a template to then use bronzer and a highlighter to contour. Contour the nose along the sides and blend in.

STEP 4:

Set your T-zone with setting powder.

Pro tip: use a damp or dry (depending on your preference) beauty blender and stipple it over your face for a skin-like finish

Top it off with copious amounts of blush on the cheekbones for that runway-esque glow up.
