A cult-favourite makeup trend that we’ve seen evolve over the years has been the humble contour. This simple technique can completely alter your facial features without plastic surgery. Contouring focuses on using shadow and light theory. You apply a darker colour on areas of your face that you would like to push back. Fuller lips, a smaller nose to chiselled cheeks, contouring makes everything possible. While Instagram contouring can look pretty harsh in real life, it looks great on camera! So how do you contour your face?
We asked celebrity makeup artist Shraddha Inder Mehta, The Makeup Maven on tips for contouring IRL and here’s what she had to say. “Makeup on screen tends to be a little more defined, everyday contouring is a little easier. You need significantly less product but if you are using cream products, it’s easy to go overboard. There’s only one key step that most of us tend to overlook - blending! Blending your contour is the only way to ensure that your skin looks natural. Even if you think you’ve spent enough time blending, blend some more. Use a duo-fibre stippling brush to get rid of any harsh lines”
Shraddha also spilt the beans on the ‘makeup artist approved’ everyday contouring technique! Follow her step-by-step contouring guide and your cheekbones will be as sharp as knives!
