Getting ready for a wedding, especially when it’s your own, can be pretty nerve-wracking. The decor, the outfits, the guests, and everything else tends to take centre stage. You have no time left to figure out things like hair and makeup. The worst part? If you leave your wedding makeup decisions for the last minute, you’re looking at a catastrophe. After all, those bridal photos are going to stay with you for a lifetime. So, we got in touch with celebrity makeup artist Puneet B Saini to bring you some valuable tips for your big day.
Whether you’re the bride or the bridesmaid, these tips are all you need to ensure your makeup looks flawless all day and all night.
1. SKIN CARE IS VERY IMPORTANT
“It’s essential to have a consistent skin care regimen before, during, and after your wedding. Exfoliate and moisturise your skin regularly, and use what works for your skin. You can’t go overboard with treatments and procedures right before your wedding. Sure, indulge in bridal facials, but get them done at least a week prior to the big day. That way, your skin has time to recover and heal.”
If you want your makeup to look good, and last all day, Puneet recommends prepping the skin by exfoliating, moisturising, and using a primer before foundation. Try the Lakmé Absolute Argan Oil Radiance Oil-in-Crème to keep your skin hydrated and supple, and the Lakmé Absolute Blur Perfect Primer, to increase the longevity of your makeup.
2. WATERPROOF FORMULAS ARE A MUST
“I always recommend using a waterproof mascara, and eyeliner, on your big day. This ensures that your makeup doesn’t bleed, even if you cry!”
Try the Lakmé Eyeconic Mascara, which gives the perfect curve for well-defined eyes.
3. GO EASY ON THE LAYERS
“If you have prepped your skin well before applying makeup, you don’t need too much. But, as a rule, apply everything in thin layers. Don’t pack on too much too soon. This is the best way to prevent your makeup from creasing and cracking.”
4. SET EVERYTHING
“Set your makeup using a loose powder. This will prevent your makeup from slipping, sliding, and creasing. A little bit of loose powder, and a spritz of setting spray, will ensure that your makeup stays in place all day.”
Try the Lakmé 9to5 Naturale Finishing Powder. It is infused with aloe vera and green tea extracts that shield your skin from dirt and pollution. It also comes in one universal shade.
5. KEEP YOUR LIP PRODUCTS HANDY
“For the lips, use a lip balm first to hydrate them. Let it sit for 10 minutes, and then apply a lip primer. Then line, and fill in, your lips before applying lipstick. This will ensure that your lipstick lasts longer. If you use a matte lipstick, your lipstick will stay put for at least 6 to 8 hours. But if you’re using a creamy or glossy lipstick, keep your lip products handy for touch-ups during the day.”
Try the Lakmé 9to5 Primer + Matte Lipstick in Red Letter, it has a great colour pay-off and lasts up to 12 hours.
6. PLAN YOUR LOOKS IN ADVANCE
“If you are unsure about what your skin will look like with a lot of makeup or how to match your makeup to your outfit, it’s best you invest in a trial before the wedding. This will ensure that you, the makeup artist, and the hairstylist, are on the same page. This will also help you determine the kind of makeup that’ll enhance your face shape. I always advise my brides to plan their makeup looks well in advance with me. Once your outfits are decided, have a discussion with your makeup artist so that you can narrow down the looks that will suit you best.”
